Between Pakbeng and the Thai border

Day 01: Vientiane
Welcome to Vientiane: The smallest capital in the world seems to wake up from its "Hundred Years' Sleep"... Its "Arch of Triumph", temples, busy local shops, colourful little art galleries which flank some of the main streets give the capital an exotic mix of "East meets West".

Day 02 and Day 03: Vientiane - Xieng Khouang (Plain of Jars)

Fly to the mystical Plain of Jars - a man-made mystery! No One can fully explain why several hundred stone jars varying in size from 500 kilograms to five tons are scattered across this high, remote plain. there is a disagreement on everything from their age to their uses. They are up to 2,000 years old and their suggested uses inlcude rice canister and burial sarcophag!

Day 4 and Day 5: Luang Prabang

You'll have an app. 7 hours drive to Luang Prabang. Nestled on the banks of the Mekong River and surrounded by montains, Luang Prabang is one of Asia's most beautiful and enchanting cities. Take in the special feel of this unique town by wandering around the decaying temples and French colonial villas and get a deep sense of the country's proud history. You won't regret your stay and the several excursions awaiting you!

Day 06: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Cave - Pakbeng

Sailing upstream on the busy Mekong, visiting Pak Ou cave housing beautiful Buddha images, passing Ethnic minority villages along the untameable river will bring you back to far-away times!

Day 07: Pakbeng - Lao/Thai Border - Chiang Rai
Another enjoyable boat ride will bring you back to Thailand, where you are back in the 21st century! You drive on a good road to Chiang Rai for your onward flight to Bangkok - or why not book a night in a relaxing resort?? Or continue to Myanmar?!
